![]() ![]() This is half /s and half me venting about being unable to be allowed to do something I wanted to in my SPECIFIC paper, but my prof had a different vision than me so I went with theirs. I attempted to put my own opinions or ideas in mine, thinking thats what I should do, and every single one got flagged with "what is your evidence? why isn't this cited?"-.its not cited because I made it up using my galaxy brain, but apparently that nots ok in this paper and the whole thing has to be a cited, reworded list of other people's ideas (obviously still struggling/annoyed with this one :P) Edit: Hey guys, I know how to back up my claims, I am not annoyed at my professor and I aware of citation and academic writing, obviously. Your professor doesn't want any of your own voice in the paper. Now for my original, sarcastic, and JOKING version of this tip (and sorry for drama it caused through misunderstanding): ![]() Figuring this out with the prof ahead of time (and not having COVID ruin your original plans) would help with this issue. The little that I did attempt was taken out, because it didn't fit with everything else. I did not feel that I was able to express my own voice in the paper because in the style of paper that I wrote, there was no room to do so. Eventually I just did what they wanted, and it was ok, but I would have been a lot more interested in my paper as I was going if I could have done it the way I wanted to. My prof wanted a stiff overview and research paper about the history of the subject. I wanted to write a paper that made connections between my subject and other concepts. Cite your outline as you go.Ĥ.) If you want help from your professor, bother them, don't wait for them to contact you.ĥ.) EDIT: Figure out what kind of paper you are writing and make sure you and prof are on the same page. If something changes, fix the organization first before going down any more rabbit holes.ģ.) Write it, or at least outline it WHILE you are reading and researching for it, NOT AFTER, or you will have to re-read everything and it will take twice as long.
